Our mission:

TO LIVE JUSTLY, LOVE MERCY, AND WALK HUMBLY WITH JESUS.

OUR VISION:

WE ARE DISCIPLES OF JESUS WHO LOVE & SERVE ALL, CULTIVATING MERCY, & THE TRANSFORMATION OF OUR CITY BY THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL.

Our values:

LOVE. We Love all people just as God loves all of us.

What does this mean? We are people who seek to genuinely love, trust, care about, and look out for one another. Just as each one of us is a child of God, individual and unique, we aspire to form a community that nurtures bonds that are interpersonal, intergenerational, respecting of individual differences in experience, culture and language while seeing the face of God in all people.

Aspiration We will be a multigenerational, diverse community of God’s children whose love for one another forms our identity as a congregation and the reflection of Jesus’s love for each other in our worship and daily lives constantly regenerates the congregation to radically love others..

PRAYER. We see prayer as central to our relationship with God.

What does this mean? Just as breath gives life to the body, so does prayer nurture the soul and build our relationship with God. Through Christ we have been given direct access to God through prayer (the priesthood of all believers), and He has promised to hear us! Prayer is the path to transforming ourselves and our world.

Aspiration That we know and walk with God through daily prayer, interceding for our loved ones, for each other and with each other, so God’s work might be done among us.

GOD’S WORD. We honor liturgical worship and traditional music, centered on God’s Word and Sacraments.

What does this mean? Liturgy, derived from the ancient Greek (Greek: λειτουργία), leitourgia, literally means "work of the people” and is our communal participation in the sacred. Offering God praise, thanksgiving, supplication and seeking repentance is an expression of the Glory of God, in our worship together and in our daily lives, and when conveyed with Music is to engage the Divine. “Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise. The gift of language combined with the gift of song was given to man that he should proclaim the Word of God through Music.” (Martin Luther).

Aspiration That all people congregate, share and draw meaning and fulfillment from the experience of worship at Zion.

GENEROSITY. With kindness and faith, we give with a spirit of hospitality to all.

What does this mean? As people of faith, recognizing that all we have are gifts from God, and having received Life Abundant, we are ready and eager to help those in need in our congregation and community. With open arms we welcome newcomers to join us in our walk with God, and we support each other in spiritual growth and in times of trial.

Aspiration That our stewardship of God’s gifts, Zion’s people, time, talent and resources are abundantly and eagerly given to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors and one another.

JOY. We are visible, accessible and relevant to our community..

What does this mean? We all have a role for the fulfillment of God’s plan, a Christian vocation or calling, and we do our best to serve God through our daily work even though our skills, our knowledge and our opportunities are different. We live and work each day to the glory of God so that the light of God’s love shines in our lives, that the worship of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ moves people, and that together the work of Zion Lutheran Church is so meaningful in our community that all would see God’s will made manifest among us.

Aspiration That we would find and spread joy by ensuring our worship, our giving and our outreach is aligned with the people and needs of our community and that we are inspired to do God’s work inside and outside the walls of Zion Lutheran Church.
