Ministries & Activities at Zion
Twenties & Thirties (TNT)
Our 20’s & 30’s Group (affectionately known as TNT) is an outlet for Millennials to hang out in an open and authentic environment, while exploring key theological topics. See calendar for new dates & location.
Book & Film Group
Do you enjoy intellectual conversation and exploring the spiritual themes of books and film? Then this is the group for you. Check out our calendar for dates, topics, and locations.
Brews with pastor hues
Brews with Pastor Hues is a great way to meet the Pastor. Every so often, Pastor Hues organizes a fellowship event at one of the many downtown breweries and invites everyone to come. See the Calendar for upcoming dates and locations.
Choir & Handbells
Zion is known for it’s music! We encourage all people to lend their abilities to enhance our worship by being a part our Handbells and Choir teams. Check out our “Music at Zion” page to learn how to sign up or even hear some musical samplings of our dynamic choir at work. Contact Kurt Berentsen for more information.
Concerts in the Courtyard
During the summer, we open our Courtyard to the community for a free concert. It’s our way of opening up our gates and doors and inviting folks in. Various local bands decorated our stage last year, and we hope to up the ante in 2018. Check out our calendar for future shows.
Food Collection for Lift Urban Portland
Zion has been a partner of Lift Urban Portland since it’s inception in 1980. They aim to reduce hunger and improve the lives of low-income residents of Northwest and Downtown Portland. We collect food items every week so that Lift Urban can stock their pantries as well as extending yearly grants, while also sending members to participate in their fundraising silent auction every year. Eventually, we hope to increase our activity and involvement with Lift Urban by adopting a building to participate in their Supper Club program. For more info contact Brian Fleener.
Hops & Hymns
We enjoy gathering at the Oregon Public House for hymns and libations on a monthly basis. The goal is that through the singing of hymns and fellowship that we are bringing God’s praises into the urban temples of our city. See Calendar for future dates and times. For more info contact Pastor Dan.
The Zion Ladies Guild is basically the women’s club of Zion, but so much more. They meet every first & 3rd Tuesday at 11am, and each month a new guest speaker is featured. 3rd Tuesday is a gathering for Bible study.
The Ladies Guild provides food and fellowship for funerals and they organize the Rose Haven luncheon every year. They have a heart for mission and truly desire to walk humbly with Jesus. The Ladies Guild is open to women of all ages. If you are interested in getting involved contact Kris Maher.
Lutheran Timbers Alliance
During the Timbers season, we gather to hand out water bottles, and occasionally to tail gate. In the future we hope to incorporate speakers from the Timbers in our celebration. If you’d like to be part of the alliance contact Pastor Dan.
Marshall Union Manor
Every third Sunday at 2pm we host a casual worship service filled with hymn requests and treats at the Marshall Union Manor senior apartments in Northwest Portland. Every month we hope to bring an extension of Zion to this community. Occasionally, we host special events as well, such as ice cream socials, opening it up to all the residents. Feel free to join us. All are welcome!
Portland Homeless Family Solutions
Portland Homeless Family Solutions aims to give hope to homeless families with children. Their mission is to empower homeless families with children to get back into housing - and stay there. Our mission is to assist this amazing ministry at their Goose Hollow Location (First United Methodist) by sending our own team of people to help once a month. Our team gathers at PHFS on First United Methodist’s campus to serve and extend love to homeless families in Portland. Check the calendar for future dates.
Rose Haven offers an array of services to help homeless and abused women and children improve their lives in Portland, Oregon. This is a cause on our hearts at Zion. We desire that women and children of all ages encounter the love, mercy, and dignity that they deserve as bearers of the image of God. They are truly precious to us. We help support Rose Haven by giving yearly grants, collecting necessary everyday items, donating food items, and volunteering to support when we can. We offer a yearly luncheon to the women and children of Rose Haven at our campus simply to show our love and support to the women and children in their care. See our calendar or Newsletter for updates and upcoming events. For more info, contact Jen DuBois.

Returning in 2018! Table Talks cultivate an environment for casual and lively discussion about key cultural topics of our day and how they are viewed differently in our Christian worldview. See the Calendar for upcoming Table Talks!
